Dial Smart Guide
The Smiths Falls Police receive thousands of calls every year. While every call is important, not every call is an
emergency, and not every call requires police assistance. We're here to help. So before you dial, consider dialing
smart!
To help you make the right decision about who to call, follow the steps below.
Step 1: EMERGENCY CALLS
Is your call an emergency? If not, proceed to step 2.

Step 2: NON-EMERGENCY CALLS
Do you still need to speak with police, fire, or ambulance? If not, proceed to step 3.

Step 3: VICTIM AND SOCIAL SERVICES
Do you need victim services such as the Interval House or the Sexual Assault
Center?
Do you need social services such as the Health Unit or Family and Children services?
If not, proceed to step 4.

Step 4: MUNICIPAL SERVICES
Do you need to speak to someone at town hall, parking control, public works, hydro, or the water commission?
If not, proceed to step 5.

Step 5: PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT SERVICES
Do you need a provincial government service such as the housing authority, the Ministry of Natural Resources, or the
Ministry of Transportation?
If not, proceed to step 6.

Step 6: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SERVCICES
Do you need a federal government service such as Citizenship and Immigration, Environment Canada, or Canada Customs?
If not, proceed to step 7.

Step 7: CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
Do you need to speak to a crown attorney, a court, a prison or correctional facility?
If you still can not find the right person to call, try looking for the numbers in your local phone book in the
following sections:
- Emergency numbers located at the front of the book
- Government Services which are located near the back of the book (often called "blue pages")
- Under the alphabetical title of the organization you need to contact.
