8 The offender has become eligible for parole. What can I do?
As a victim, you have the right to have your views known during a Parole Board Hearing. These hearings are used to assess if an offender is eligible for early release from prison. You can submit your views to the Parole Board through a victim impact statement. Though the submission of a victim impact statement, the Board will consider any information the victim believes relevant, including the victim's fears and other long term effects the crime might have caused (including physical, emotional, financial). Victim impact statements should be completed soon after sentencing.
Note:
- You will only be notified of the offender's parole status if you request to be notified.
- You can attend a Parole Board Hearing only as an observer. You are not allowed direct participation in a Parole Board Hearing.
