Male arrested for tampering with fire alarm
On Monday July 11, 2022, at approximately 11:15 a.m., police attended a Beckwith Street South apartment complex, located and arrested a 37-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for tampering with the building’s fire alarm system.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had set off the fire alarm on Sunday July 10, 2022 and uttered a verbal threat to cause death to another tenant.  When being placed under arrest, the suspect resisted police.
 
As a result, the suspect is charged with the following:  Mischief Endangering Life, False Alarm of Fire, Resisting a Peace Officer and Uttering a Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm. 
 
The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges. 
 
Male arrested for mischief, threats and causing a disturbance
On Tuesday July 12, 2022, at approximately 10:50 p.m., police located and arrested a 26-year-old male suspect stemming from a June 30, 2022 incident at a Pearl Street apartment complex.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had uttered a threat to another resident of the complex, caused a disturbance disrupted residents pleasure and use of the property.
 
As a result, the suspect stands charged with the following:  Mischief, Uttering a Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Causing a Disturbance.
 
The suspect was later released by police with conditions and will appear in court at a later date to answer to these outstanding charges against him. 
 
Male arrested for threatening ex-partner
On Thursday July 14, 2022, at approximately 7:09 p.m, police located and arrested a 38-year-old male suspect for uttering a threat to his ex-partner, stemming from a July 10, 2022 incident. 
 
The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge against him. 
 
Two females arrested for uttering threats and male for assault police
On Sunday July 17, 2022, police located and arrested a 27-year-old female suspect of Ottawa and a 29-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls for uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a female victim known to both, stemming from a July 7, 2022 reported incident.  While placing one of the suspects under arrest, a male assaulted one of our police officers. 
 
As a result, all three suspects were charged accordingly and later released by police with conditions and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to these outstanding charges.

Domestic offences lead to charges

On the 7th of July 2022 a 31 year old Smiths Falls male was charged with domestic related assault and mischief. He was later released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.

On the 8th of July 2022 a 24 year old Smiths Falls male was charged with domestic related assault and mischief was later released on conditions after a bail hearing.

On the 10th of July 2022 a 20 year old Smiths Falls female was charged with uttering threats and assault. She was later released on conditions to appear at a later court date.

On the 10th of July 2022 a 19 year old Smiths Falls male was charged with domestic related assault mischief. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Bail violation leads to further charges

A 36 year old Smiths Falls male was charged July 4th after police received information he may be with a female and her child that he was on conditions not to contact or associate with. Police arrested and charged this male with breach of his release order. While in custody, this male decided to throw his urine and feces at officers and was further charged with mischief as a result. He is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.   

Mother and Son duo facing further counterfeit related charges

Police have laid a total of 32 charges relating to Smiths Falls resident Wanetta Generoux and her son Joel Closs for passing numerous counterfeit $100 bills to various stores last month. They had been released in bail court on conditions.

Overdose calls over the weekend

Since Friday, officer responded to 3 calls related to overdose of what officers believe to be fentanyl. All have survived after naloxone was administered either by police or paramedics.

There were 182 calls for service over this last week- a lot of very time consuming calls relating to mental health, domestics and medical assist calls.

Mother and son arrested for possessing counterfeit money

On Friday June 24, 2022, at approximately 10:08 a.m., after an ongoing investigation, police located and arrested 48-year-old, Wanetta GENEROUX of Lanark, Ontario, and her son, 29-year-old, Joel CLOSS for being in possession of counterfeit money.  Police later executed a search warrant at a Center Street address and successfully recovered additional counterfeit funds, all in US denominations.

GENEROUX stands charged with the following:  Possession of Counterfeit Money (jointly) and Possession of Counterfeit Money.

CLOSS stands charged with the following:  Possession of Counterfeit Money (jointly), Possession of Counterfeit Money and one count of Failing to comply with Probation Order.

Both were held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges against them.

Male arrested for theft related and driving offences

On Sunday June 26, 2022 at approximately 12:14 p.m., police located a vehicle and driver in a Lombard Street business parking lot, from a previous gasoline drive off investigation.  Police interacted with the driver, 36-year-old, Michael FERGUS of Perth, Ontario.  During this interaction, police instructed FERGUS to stop his vehicle and park.  FERGUS proceeded to flee the area in an unsafe manner and travelled southbound onto Lombard Street. 

FERGUS was located and subsequently placed under arrest a short time later by police. 

FERGUS was held for a bail hearing and stands charged with the following:  Theft Under $5000.00, Flight from Police, Resist Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00 x2.

Female arrested for intimate partner violence

On Monday June 27, 2022, at approximately 7:13 p.m., police received a call to attend an Elm Street West residence, for a report of a male victim being struck by his female partner.  Investigation revealed, that a 59-year-old, female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had engaged in a verbal argument and in anger, struck the victim.  The victim did not suffer any injuries as a result. 

The suspect stands charged with one count of Spousal Assault and was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to this charge.

The Smiths Falls Police Service are looking to identify the two individuals pictured above, after receiving a complaint of mischief to the Murphy Building in Centennial Park. It is believed that the damages occurred sometime over the weekend (June 11/12th).

Female arrested for uttering a threat

On Saturday June 11, 2022, at approximately 7:23 p.m., police received a call to attend a Brockville Street business for a report of a threat being made.  Investigation revealed that a 67-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had uttered a threat to burn property of her previous partner after engaging in a verbal argument. 

The suspect was placed under arrest, is charged with one count of uttering threats and was later released by way of an undertaking with conditions to answer to this charge.

Fail to remain accident results in arrest

On Saturday June 11, 2022, at approximately 9:44 p.m., police received a call to attend William Street East, for a report of a vehicle that had struck an unoccupied vehicle and fled the scene.  Police attended and located the vehicle and driver a short time later.  Investigation revealed that the driver, 38-year-old, Andrew MALONEY, of Smiths Falls was impaired by alcohol. 

MALONEY is charged with Operation while impaired (Over 80), had his vehicle impounded for 7 days, drivers licence suspended for 90 days and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to this charge.

Multiple arrests after execution of drug warrant

On Friday June 3, 2022, at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of the Smiths Falls Police Service, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) Search Warrant at a Lombard Street address.  As a result, four suspects were arrested, a quantity of drugs, cash, ammunition and weapon were located and seized.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Wednesday May 25, 2022, at approximately 10:23 a.m., police located and arrested a 37-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from a May 19, 2022 incident in where the suspect was found to be in breach of his court ordered release conditions from a previous intimate partner violence offence. 

The suspect stands charged with breaching his court ordered release order x2, Criminal Harassment and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Wednesday May 25, 2022, police located and arrested a 25-year-old male suspect of Parham, Ontario for an outstanding warrant stemming from a June 2021 incident.  The suspect stands charged with breaching his release order conditions x4 and was held for a bail hearing.   

Traffic leads to arrest

On Thursday May 26, 2022, at approximately 1:47 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Abbott Street North after receiving an alert on the Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) for a highway traffic offence.  Investigation revealed that 39-year-old driver, Michael VALENCIA was a suspended driver was in possession of a controlled substance. 

VALENCIA was arrested and stands charged with one count of possession of a Schedule 1 substance and had his vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.  He was later released by way of a Form 10 release Undertaking with conditions to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Monday May 30, 2022, at approximately 7:41 a.m., police located and arrested a 30-year-old suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from a September 2021 incident in where the suspect did not attend for his court appearance.  The suspect was also found to be in breach of two additional breaches of his court ordered release conditions.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for theft and drug offence

On Monday May 30, 2022, at approximately 9:54 a.m., police located and arrested 24-year-old, Jeffrey HAMILTON, of no fixed address for a shoplifting incident at a Lombard Street business that occurred on May 27, 2022.  Investigation revealed that HAMILTON was in possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance and in breach of his court ordered release conditions. 

HAMILTON stands charged with the following:  Theft Under $5000.00, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance and two counts of breaching his court ordered release conditions. 

HAMILTON was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Tuesday May 31, 2022, at approximately 11:43 a.m., police located and arrested a 67-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from a previous intimate partner violence incident and failing to comply with his court ordered release conditions.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.

Neighbour dispute leads to arrest

On Tuesday May 31, 2022, at approximately 11:33 p.m., police responded to a neighbour dispute at a McGill Street South residence.  Investigation revealed that a 65-year-old, male suspect of Smiths Falls, had uttered a threat to his neighbour.

The suspect was placed under arrest and is charged with Uttering a Threat and was later released by police by way of a Form 10 Undertaking with conditions to answer to this charge.

The Smiths Falls Police Service Board would like to announce that following an internal promotional process, Staff Sergeant Jodi Empey will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police effective July 1, 2022.  We are very excited to announce the first female Deputy Chief in our history.  Jodi was a graduate of Carleton University with a degree in Sociology and went to high school at Cairine Wilson. She started with the Smiths Falls Police Service as a recruit in 1994, working very hard through the ranks, dedicating herself to policing our community and giving back.  She has shown great leadership moving up the ranks and earning the respect of her peers and the public.  She is a compassionate, dedicated professional who will effectively deal with the operational needs of the Service.

“I am very pleased at the decision of the Board to promote from within the Police Service.  We have a great staff and we work hard on developing our people to be future leaders.  I look forward to working with Deputy Chief Empey in her new role” says Chief Mark MacGillivray.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Tuesday May 3, 2022, at approximately 4:55 p.m., police located and arrested a 32-year-old male suspect, of no fixed address, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from an April 2022, intimate partner violence incident at a Main Street east residence.  Investigation revealed that the suspect, assaulted his partner, damaged personal property and was in breach of his probation order release condition.

The suspect is charged with the following:  Assault, Mischief Under $5000.00 x2, breach of probation and was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Female arrested for intimate partner violence incident

On Saturday May 7, 2022, at approximately 5:34 p.m., police attended a Stratchona Street address for a report of an intimate partner violence incident.  Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old female suspect had assaulted her partner and caused damage to his personal property. 

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest, is charged with Assault and Mischief Under $5000.00 and was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges. 

Male arrested for breaching his release order

On the 10th of May 2022 police arrested a 68 year old Smiths Falls male with breach of his release order stemming from an Intimate Partner Violence investigation where charges of criminal harassment were laid. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Male arrested for fraud related offences

On the 11th of May 2022 police arrested a male for fraud related offences stemming from an investigation that commenced in November 2021. Charged with fraud and forgery is 35 year old Brendan Laming of Smiths Falls. He was also arrested on a committal warrant and held in custody pending a bail hearing.  

Wanted male arrested

On the 9th of May 2022 a Smiths Falls Police bike patrol officer spotted wanted male Dale Scott who at the time was operating a vehicle. On the 11th of May 2022 Smiths Falls Police located and arrested Dale Scott in Lanark Twp for breaches of his probation as well as several driving related offences. Scott was returned to Smiths Falls where he was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Male arrested for Intimate partner violence

Police investigated a serious Intimate Partner Violence incident that occurred on the 12th of May.   A 26 year old Smiths Falls male was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, assault, uttering threats to cause death and bodily harm, and two counts of mischief. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.   

Person arrested for assaulting an officer

On the 13th of May 2022 police received a call to attend a local restaurant parking lot on Beckwith St N regarding an intoxicated, belligerent person. Upon arrival, the person attacked the lone officer at the scene, punching, kicking and biting the officer. 2 bystanders assisted the officer until back up arrived. Charged with assault police, uttering threats and resisting arresting is a 19 year old resident from Smiths Falls. Their name will not be released.

Male arrested for Intimate Partner Violence offence

On Monday April 11, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call from a female victim advising she had just been threatened by her ex-partner.  Investigation revealed, that a 27-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, uttered a threat to kill the victim.

As a result, the suspect was charged with one count of uttering a threat to cause death.

The suspect was located and arrested a short time later and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Female arrested for shoplifting

On Tuesday April 12, 2022, at approximately 8:59 p.m., police received a call to attend a Lombard Street business, for a report of a female shoplifter.  Investigation revealed, that the 36-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had selected several products, concealed them, and made no effort to pay before exiting the business.  

Police located and placed the suspect under arrest.  She stands charged with one count of Theft Under $5,000.00, released by way of an Appearance Notice, and will appear in court at a later date to answer to this charge.

Female arrested for Intimate Partner Violence offence

On Wednesday April 13, 2022, at approximately 12:33 p.m., police attended a Church Street residence for a report of an assault.  Investigation revealed that a 19-year-old, female suspect, of Perth, Ontario, had assaulted her partner on this date and several other previous dates.

The suspect was placed under arrest, stands charged with three counts of Assault, and was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.  

Traffic stop leads to arrest

On Friday April 15, 2022, at approximately 7:23 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.  A check of the 34-year-old, male driver, revealed that he was a prohibited driver stemming from an outstanding impaired driving charge; had several suspensions against his drivers license, and was in breach of his Conditional Sentence Order, house arrest release condition.
As a result, the suspect was placed under arrest, had his vehicle impounded, and was held for a bail hearing.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Monday April 18, 2022, at approximately 6:42 p.m., police located and arrested a 38-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from an April 10, 2022, incident in where the suspect failed to update his address as part of his court-ordered release conditions from an Intimate Partner Violence-related incident.   

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.
