Caution to delivery drivers

The Smiths Falls Police Service investigated a matter in where a delivery driver making a delivery was inappropriately propositioned by a resident in the Town of Smiths Falls.  The investigation resulted in a 62 year-old male suspect being arrested and charged with the following:  Obtaining sexual services for consideration from person under 18 years and Administering noxious thing. 

Police are concerned that there may be more victims of this type of incident and are urged to come forward.  Police are not able to release any further details at this time due to a court imposed publication ban.

The suspect was denied bail and remains in custody at this time.

Crime stoppers tip leads to identity of male involved in a theft

In October 2021 police commenced an investigation into a theft from a retail store where a large amount of items were stolen. To assist in identity, police put the male suspects’ photo on their facebook page. A crime stoppers tip came in with a name of this individual. Investigation continued and on December 8th 2021 24 year old Lawson Penny was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000. He was later released on conditions with a later court date.

Breach charges laid      

On the 8th of December 2021 during a theft investigation, police identified a male on surveillance who was not to attend that business due to previous theft charges. A 51 year old male was arrested for breach of his release order and breach of probation. He was later released on conditions.

Arrest leads to further drug charges;

On the 29th of November 2021 police responded to a call at 24 Bourke St. Upon arrival, police arrested a 53 year old male wanted on a warrant out of Quebec. On his possession was what police determined to be crack/cocaine. He was charged with possession CDSA. He will appear in court at a later date.

Aggravated assault charges laid in domestic

On the 30th of November 2021 police responded to a serious domestic assault incident on Main St. A 40 year old male is charged with aggravated assault, breach of a release order and being unlawfully in a dwelling. He was held in custody for a later court appearance.  

Motor vehicle collision leads to charges

On the 30th of November 2021 police responded to a 2 person motor vehicle collision- no injuries where the one vehicle fled the scene. Police located the vehicle on Highway 15 and determined the female driver of Carleton Place was a prohibited driver and on outstanding court imposed conditions not to drive. Upon arrest, she further was in possession with what police believed to be cocaine. She was charged with possession CDSA, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, breach of a release order and later released after a bail hearing.      

Lock it or Lose it

Police are reminding the public especially during the holiday season to lock your vehicles at all times, take valuable items inside, especially the car keys and don’t leave packages in plain view of the vehicle. Report suspicious people immediately to this service.
