Female arrested for assaulting two youth in her care

On Monday February 14, 2022, at approximately 1:10 p.m., police attended a Main Street residence for a report of a youth being assaulted by a family member.  Investigation revealed that a 31-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had assaulted two youths in her care.

The suspect was later arrested and stands charged with the following:  Assault with a weapon and Assault.  The suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.

Male arrested for failing to stop for police

On Monday February 14, 2022, at approximately 2:09 p.m., police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Chambers Street.  The driver of the vehicle failed to stop as directed and a short pursuit ensued.  Once stopped, the 61-year-old male driver, of Smiths Falls, provided a false name to police and he was subsequently placed under arrest.  The driver was also found to have a suspended driver’s licence. 

As a result the driver was charged with the following:  Flight from Peace Officer and Obstruct Peace Officer.  The vehicle was also impounded as a result. 

The driver was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

On Wednesday February 16, 2022, at approximately 12:50 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Brockville Street.  Investigation revealed that the male driver was a suspended driver.  A 46-year-old female passenger was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest, stemming from a May 2021, theft related incident in where she failed to attend court. 

The female suspect was later released with a new court date to answer to this charge. 

Male arrested for breaching his bail release conditions

On Thursday February 17, 2022, at approximately 10:16 a.m., police located and arrested a 27-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for breaching a condition of his bail release. 

The suspect stands charged with one count of Failing to comply with release order and was held for a bail hearing.

Male arrested for domestic offences

On Saturday January 29, 2022 at approximately 1:48 p.m., police responded to report of a domestic related incident after the fact.  Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had uttered a threat to kill his previous intimate partner, assaulted and damaged property belonging to the victim. 

As a result the suspect was placed under arrest and stands charged with the following:  Uttering Threats, Assault and Mischief Under $5000.00 and are all domestic related.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for driving offences

On Thursday January 20, 2022, at approximately 10:09 a.m., police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 51-year-old male suspect, of Ottawa, for a non-driving related matter.  The suspect refused to stop for police and a short pursuit ensued on Beckwith Street south.  The suspect drove his vehicle in a dangerous manner until stopping for police a short distance later. 

On Monday February 1, 2022, at approximately 3:50 a.m., the suspect was located, placed under arrest and stands charged with the following:  Flight from Peace Officer and Dangerous Operation.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges. 

Male arrested for uttering threat

On Monday February 1, 2022, at approximately 12:00 p.m., police responded to a Lorne Street business for a report of an assault.  Investigation revealed, that a 45-year-old male suspect, of Perth, assaulted a co-worker.

The suspect was placed under arrest and is charged with one count of Assault. 

The suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Wednesday February 2, 2022, at approximately 10:00 a.m., police located and arrested a 28-year-old male suspect, of no fixed address, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued on January 11, 2022, after the suspect failed to notify police of his address and failed to appear for identification purposes. 

As a result the suspect is charged with two counts of breaching his release Undertaking conditions. 

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for fraud and identity theft offences

On Monday January 24, 2022, a Smiths Falls auto dealership, contacted police to report a suspected fraudulent transaction by one of their customers.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had completed the online finance application and did so fraudulently by using identity documents that were not his own in attempts to purchase a vehicle exceeding $100,000.00. 

On Tuesday January 25, 2022, at approximately 4:54 p.m., 58-year-old, Ghislain GALIPEAU, of Laval, Quebec, attended the dealership and was subsequently placed under arrest. 

GALIPEAU stands charged with the following:  Possess Identity documents x2, Identity Fraud, Identity Theft, Fraud over $5000.00 and Obstruct Peace Officer. 

GALIPEAU was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for shoplifting

On Friday January 28, 2022, at approximately 11 a.m., police received a call to attend a Lombard Street business for a report of a male shoplifter.  Investigation revealed that the 29-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had selected several pieces of merchandise, concealed these items and exited the business and did not make any attempt to pay.

The suspect was issued an Appearance notice and will appear in court at a future date.
