Press Release

The Smiths Falls Police Service Board would like to announce that following an internal promotional process, Staff Sergeant Jodi Empey will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police effective July 1, 2022.  We are very excited to announce the first female Deputy Chief in our history.  Jodi was a graduate of Carleton University with a degree in Sociology and went to high school at Cairine Wilson. She started with the Smiths Falls Police Service as a recruit in 1994, working very hard through the ranks, dedicating herself to policing our community and giving back.  She has shown great leadership moving up the ranks and earning the respect of her peers and the public.  She is a compassionate, dedicated professional who will effectively deal with the operational needs of the Service.

“I am very pleased at the decision of the Board to promote from within the Police Service.  We have a great staff and we work hard on developing our people to be future leaders.  I look forward to working with Deputy Chief Empey in her new role” says Chief Mark MacGillivray.
