Youth arrested for theft from vehicle
On Sunday September 11, 2022, at approximately 6:18 p.m., police located and arrested a 17-year-old male suspect, of Drummond North Elmsley Township stemming from an August 5, 2022 offence. Investigation revealed that the suspect had attempted to steal items and was on the owner’s property without authorization at approximately 1:02 a.m., on the offence date.
The suspect is charged with trespassing at night and theft under $5000.00. The suspect was later released by way of an undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date.
Male driver arrested after striking pedestrian
On Monday September 12, 2022, at approximately 6:06 a.m., police located and arrested a 51-year-old male suspect, of Perth, Ontario, for driving related offences stemming from a September 10, 2022 incident. Investigation revealed that the suspected operated his motor vehicle in a dangerous manner on Bourke Street, struck a female pedestrian known to him and fled the scene without offering assistance. The female victim suffered minor injuries as a result.
The suspect was held for a bail hearing and was charged with the following: Dangerous operation causing bodily harm and Failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.
Male arrested for stealing street sign and drug charge
On Monday September 12, 2022, at approximately 9:26 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop in the downtown core. Investigation revealed that the 38 year-old male passenger Jonathon RILEY, of Smiths Falls, was wanted stemming from a Saturday September 10, 2022 incident in where RILEY was observed cutting down a street sign with a saw and concealing it on his property. While conducting a search of RILEY, police located a quantity of Schedule I substance, an illicit drug.
RILEY was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and is charged with the following: Mischief under $5000.00, Theft under $5000.00 and Possession of a Schedule I Substance. RILEY will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.
Male and female arrested for breaching release conditions
On Tuesday September 13, 2022, police located and arrested a 27-year-old male suspect of Carleton Place and a 27-year-old female suspect of Smiths Falls for breaching their court ordered release conditions. Investigation revealed that both accused had been in contact with one another contrary to their release orders stemming from previous Intimate Partner Violence offences.
The male suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to the following charges: Fail to comply with undertaking x2 and Fail to comply with release order x2.
The female suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking and is charged with the following: Fail to comply with release order x3.
Traffic stop leads to arrest and drug charge
On Wednesday September 21, 2022 at approximately 11:41 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Chambers Street. Investigation revealed that the driver, 37-year-old Gregory STEACY, of Delta, Ontario, was a prohibited driver and he had a quantity of an illicit substance inside his vehicle. STEACY was subsequently placed under arrest and had his vehicle impounded as a result.
STEACY is charged with Operating while prohibited and Possession of a Schedule I Substance. STEACY was later released by way of an Undertaking and will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.
