Arrest leads to further drug charges;

On the 29th of November 2021 police responded to a call at 24 Bourke St. Upon arrival, police arrested a 53 year old male wanted on a warrant out of Quebec. On his possession was what police determined to be crack/cocaine. He was charged with possession CDSA. He will appear in court at a later date.

Aggravated assault charges laid in domestic

On the 30th of November 2021 police responded to a serious domestic assault incident on Main St. A 40 year old male is charged with aggravated assault, breach of a release order and being unlawfully in a dwelling. He was held in custody for a later court appearance.  

Motor vehicle collision leads to charges

On the 30th of November 2021 police responded to a 2 person motor vehicle collision- no injuries where the one vehicle fled the scene. Police located the vehicle on Highway 15 and determined the female driver of Carleton Place was a prohibited driver and on outstanding court imposed conditions not to drive. Upon arrest, she further was in possession with what police believed to be cocaine. She was charged with possession CDSA, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, breach of a release order and later released after a bail hearing.      

Lock it or Lose it

Police are reminding the public especially during the holiday season to lock your vehicles at all times, take valuable items inside, especially the car keys and don’t leave packages in plain view of the vehicle. Report suspicious people immediately to this service.

Male arrested for breaching release conditions

On Tuesday November 16, 2021, at approximately 12:27 p.m., police responded to a Chambers Street residence for a possible domestic disturbance in progress.  Police located a 28-year-old male suspect hiding inside the residence.  The suspect was found to be on a Judges release order with conditions to have no communication or be within 200 meters of the female resident stemming from a previous domestic related incident. 

The suspect was placed under arrest, stands charged with 2 counts of breaching his Judges release order and held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.

Male arrested for Exceed 80 and breaching release condition

On Thursday November 18, 2021, at approximately 3:37 p.m., police were alerted by a concerned member of the public on Chambers Street, in regards to male sitting inside a vehicle suspected to be consuming alcohol. 

Investigation revealed that 36-year-old, Henry VERHOEVEN, of Smiths Falls, was consuming and under the influence of alcohol while having care and control of his motor vehicle.  VERHOEVEN was subsequently placed under arrest and provided samples of his breath to a qualified breath technician, resulting in having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

VERHOEVEN additionally stands charged with a breaching a release order condition stemming from a previous alcohol driving related offence in 2020, had his driver licence suspended for a period of 90 days and vehicle impounded as a result.   

VERHOEVEN was later released by way of a Promise to Appear and will appear in court at a future court date.

Male arrested for breaching release condition

On Friday November 19, 2021, at approximately 7:33 a.m., police received a call to attend the area of James Street, for a report of a male breaching his court ordered release condition.  Investigation revealed that a 63-year-old male, of no fixed address, was found to be in breach of his release condition by being in the Town of Smiths Falls for an unauthorized purpose. 

The suspect was located a short time later, arrested and released by way of a Promise to Appear and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to this charge.

Couple arrested for theft after posting stolen jewelry to sell online

Smiths Falls Police commenced an investigation after noticing packaged jewelry being sold on local facebook buy and sell and swap shop sites that appeared to be stolen. Police then located the business where it came from and determined they were in fact stolen. Police then located the parties involved and recovered a large portion of the stolen merchandise.

Charged jointly with possession of property obtained by crime, theft under $5,000 and trafficking in stolen goods are Bradley Jinkinson age 40 and 33 year old Robyn Jinkinson- both of Smiths Falls. They were released to appear in court at a later date.

Some helpful tips when buying on these buy and sell sites:

-Is there a large amount of the same product that a person has that seems suspicious?

-Do they have positive reviews/reputation on these local selling sites?

-Is it too good to be true for the value of the product verses what they are selling?  

– has the person “lost all receipts” for numerous tagged items?

Female arrested for outstanding warrant and controlled substance

On Friday November 5, 2021, at approximately 3:49 p.m., police located and arrested 32-year-old, Tanya-Dawn REID, of Arnprior, Ontario for an outstanding warrant for her arrest held by the OPP.

A search of REID, revealed that she was in possession of controlled drug substances.  As a result, REID stands charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance. 

REID was later released by way of an Undertaking and turned over to the OPP on strength of their outstanding arrest warrant. 

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Sunday November 7, 2021, at approximately 12:57 p.m., police located and arrested a 50- year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding arrest warrant.  The warrant was issued stemming from an October 2021, theft related incident. 

The suspect stands charged with one count of theft under $5000.00 and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge. 

Male arrested for outstanding warrant   

On Tuesday November 9, 2021, at approximately 9:45 a.m., police located and arrested a 28-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding arrest warrant.  The warrant was issued in relation to an October 2021 disturbance incident at a Chambers Street residence.

The suspect stands charged with the following:  Break and Enter, Unlawfully in Dwelling, Assault, Mischief Under $5000.00 and Breach of a Probation release condition. 

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for numerous criminal offences

On Wednesday November 10, 2021, at approximately 8:57 a.m., police located and arrested a 28-year-old, male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for numerous fraud related offences.  Police entered into an investigation in July of 2021, and revealed that the suspect had stolen cheques belonging to a family member and proceeded to cash numerous fraudulent cheques at several financial institutions. 

The suspect stands charged with the following:  Theft Under $5000.00, Possession of stolen property x2, Fraud Under $5000.00 x7 and Utter Forged documents x7. 

The suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for firearms related offences

On Tuesday November 2, 2021, at approximately 3:41 a.m., police received a call to attend the area of Sussex Street, for a report of a possible gun shot.  Investigation revealed that 34 year old, Dusty Mervin BELL, of Carleton Place, had discharged a firearm striking an unoccupied parked vehicle and made threats towards another male known to him.  The vehicle sustained damage as a result. 

On Thursday November 4, 2021 at approximately 10:15 a.m., with the assistance of the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad, BELL was located and placed under arrest and held for a bail hearing. 

BELL stands charged with the following: 

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm x2
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm x2
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing a firearm present x2
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x2
  • Carless use of a firearm
  • Using a firearm while committing an offence
  • Mischief under $5000.00
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order x4
  • Fail to comply with Undertaking release conditions x2
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order release conditions x2
