Youth arrested for theft from vehicle

On Sunday September 11, 2022, at approximately 6:18 p.m., police located and arrested a 17-year-old male suspect, of Drummond North Elmsley Township stemming from an August 5, 2022 offence.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had attempted to steal items and was on the owner’s property without authorization at approximately 1:02 a.m., on the offence date.

The suspect is charged with trespassing at night and theft under $5000.00.  The suspect was later released by way of an undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date. 

Male driver arrested after striking pedestrian

On Monday September 12, 2022, at approximately 6:06 a.m., police located and arrested a 51-year-old male suspect, of Perth, Ontario, for driving related offences stemming from a September 10, 2022 incident.  Investigation revealed that the suspected operated his motor vehicle in a dangerous manner on Bourke Street, struck a female pedestrian known to him and fled the scene without offering assistance.  The female victim suffered minor injuries as a result. 

The suspect was held for a bail hearing and was charged with the following: Dangerous operation causing bodily harm and Failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.

Male arrested for stealing street sign and drug charge

On Monday September 12, 2022, at approximately 9:26 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop in the downtown core.  Investigation revealed that the 38 year-old male passenger Jonathon RILEY, of Smiths Falls, was wanted stemming from a Saturday September 10, 2022 incident in where RILEY was observed cutting down a street sign with a saw and concealing it on his property.  While conducting a search of RILEY, police located a quantity of Schedule I substance, an illicit drug. 

RILEY was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and is charged with the following:  Mischief under $5000.00, Theft under $5000.00 and Possession of a Schedule I Substance.  RILEY will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.

Male and female arrested for breaching release conditions

On Tuesday September 13, 2022, police located and arrested a 27-year-old male suspect of Carleton Place and a 27-year-old female suspect of Smiths Falls for breaching their court ordered release conditions.  Investigation revealed that both accused had been in contact with one another contrary to their release orders stemming from previous Intimate Partner Violence offences. 

The male suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to the following charges:  Fail to comply with undertaking x2 and Fail to comply with release order x2.

The female suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking and is charged with the following:  Fail to comply with release order x3.

Traffic stop leads to arrest and drug charge

On Wednesday September 21, 2022 at approximately 11:41 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Chambers Street. Investigation revealed that the driver, 37-year-old Gregory STEACY, of Delta, Ontario, was a prohibited driver and he had a quantity of an illicit substance inside his vehicle.  STEACY was subsequently placed under arrest and had his vehicle impounded as a result.

STEACY is charged with Operating while prohibited and Possession of a Schedule I Substance.  STEACY was later released by way of an Undertaking and will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.

Male driver arrested for impaired driving

On Saturday September 3, 2022, at approximately 12:22 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Market Street north for traffic violation.  Investigation revealed that the 20-year-old driver, Parker LEE, of Smiths Falls, was impaired by alcohol and had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system. 

The driver had his vehicle impounded, driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days and is charged with the following:  Operation while impaired and Operation while impaired having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

The driver was later released by way of a Promise to Appear release order and will attend court at a future date to answer to the outstanding charges against him.

Female driver arrested

On Monday September 5, 2022, at approximately 3:58 p.m., police received a call to attend Abel Street for a report of a recovered stolen vehicle.  Investigation revealed that the 37-year-old female driver, Amanda BILLINGS, of Smiths Falls was operating a vehicle that was reported stolen to police on August 9, 2022 and had a quantity of an illicit substance. 

BILLINGS, was subsequently placed under arrest and stands charged with the following:  Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00, Possession of a Schedule I drug and several Highway Traffic Act related offences.

BILLINGS was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges against her. 

Male arrested for using stolen bank card

On Thursday September 8, 2022, at approximately 3:09 p.m., police located and arrested a 27-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, stemming from an August 4, 2022 incident in where a victim reportedly lost his bankcard and discovered someone had used it afterwards.  Investigation revealed that the suspect, had used the bank card without authorization on several occasions.

The suspect is charged the following:  Possession of a credit card obtained by crime and Use a credit card obtained by crime x3.  The suspect was later released by police by way of an undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date.

Male arrested for intimate partner violence offences

On Friday September 9, 2022, at approximately 10:57 a.m., police located and arrested a 23-year-old male suspect for outstanding intimate partner violence offences.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had committed numerous violent offences against his partner over the span of a year or more. 

The suspect is charged with the following: Assault (IPV), Mischief Under $5000.00 x2, Criminal Harassment and Assault with a Weapon x2. 

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for breaching release condition 

On Friday August 26, 2022, at approximately 9:44 a.m., police received information that a male was at a residence in Smiths Falls while being bound by a court ordered release order prohibiting him from being in the Town stemming from a previous Intimate Partner Violence incident.  Police attended the residence and located the 59-year-old suspect, of Smiths Falls, and subsequently placed him under arrest.

The accused was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Female arrested for theft and breaches

On Sunday August 28, 2022, at approximately 9:446 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Chambers Street.  Investigation revealed that the 27-year-old female passenger, of Smiths Falls, was wanted in a theft of gasoline from a local retailer.  The suspect was also found to be in breach of two of her court ordered release conditions. 

The accused is charged with one count of theft under $5000.00 and two counts of breaching her court ordered release order and was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Female arrested for threats and weapon offences

On Monday August 29, 2022, at approximately 6:57 p.m., police located and arrested a

47-year-old female, of Smiths Falls for numerous criminal offences stemming from a August 25, 2022 incident.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had uttered threats to a neighbour and picked up a weapon of opportunity in a threatening manner.  

The accused is charged with the following:  Uttering Threats, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000.00 and Criminal Harassment.  

The accused was later released by police with conditions and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for breaching release order conditions

On Thursday September 1, 2022, at approximately 8:59 p.m., police attended a Center Street address and located a 25-year-old male suspect that had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued, stemming from an August 21, 2022, incident in where the suspect breached his court ordered release conditions stemming from an Intimate Partner Violence related incident.  

The accused is charged with two counts of breaching his release order and held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.

Intimate Partner breaches laid

On the 5th of August 2022, Police received a call at an address on Parkland Court to commence an investigation into a domestic related breach in regards to a report that the accused had been living and communicating with the victim while on charges of domestic related assault. As a result, a 25-year-old Smiths Falls man, was arrested for violating his conditions and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Multiple Charges laid after off-duty officer spots wanted male

On the 12th of August 2022, an off duty Smiths Falls Police Officer noted a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Cornelia Street.  Patrol units attempted to stop this vehicle and the male driver, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot to a nearby back yard. The same off duty officer, who was on his way to have a work out before his shift, pursued the male on foot and apprehended him with patrol officers without incident.

As a result, 25-year-old, Dale Scott, of no fixed address was arrested for his outstanding warrants, for failing to comply with his prior release orders and breaches of his probation order. He was further charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stunt driving, operation while prohibited, flight from police, operation while impaired by drug, possession of property obtained by crime, drive under suspension x2, use plates not authorized for vehicle and further breaches.

Scott, was held in custody pending a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges against him.

Intimate Partner Breaches;

On the 13th of August 2022, police were called to an address on Philip Street, in regards to a landlord/tenant issue. Investigation revealed that a 36-year-old female tenant was on a Conditional Sentence Order with conditions to abstain from communicating with another female who was also in the unit. The 36-year-old female, was arrested for breaching her Conditional Sentence Order and held for bail.

On the same date, police were called to a disturbance on Church Street west and as a result, arrested a 19 year old for domestic related breaches. The person was held in custody for bail.

Male wanted spotted by police

On the 15th of August 2022, police spotted a wanted male, who was a passenger in a vehicle, travelling on Cornelia Street. When the officer initiated a traffic stop, the passenger fled on foot. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit with members of the Crime Unit assisting in locating the accused off Mazie Street.

As a result, 34-year-old, Tyler Pretty was arrested, held for a bail hearing and is charged with the following offences:  Theft Under $5000.00 x 3, Breach of Probation x 5, Possess Property Obtained By Crime, Possess Firearm or Ammunition x 3, Possess Break In Instruments, Possess Property Obtained By Crime, Assault x 2, Resist Peace Officer and Mischief.

Male arrested for tampering with fire alarm
On Monday July 11, 2022, at approximately 11:15 a.m., police attended a Beckwith Street South apartment complex, located and arrested a 37-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for tampering with the building’s fire alarm system.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had set off the fire alarm on Sunday July 10, 2022 and uttered a verbal threat to cause death to another tenant.  When being placed under arrest, the suspect resisted police.
 
As a result, the suspect is charged with the following:  Mischief Endangering Life, False Alarm of Fire, Resisting a Peace Officer and Uttering a Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm. 
 
The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges. 
 
Male arrested for mischief, threats and causing a disturbance
On Tuesday July 12, 2022, at approximately 10:50 p.m., police located and arrested a 26-year-old male suspect stemming from a June 30, 2022 incident at a Pearl Street apartment complex.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had uttered a threat to another resident of the complex, caused a disturbance disrupted residents pleasure and use of the property.
 
As a result, the suspect stands charged with the following:  Mischief, Uttering a Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Causing a Disturbance.
 
The suspect was later released by police with conditions and will appear in court at a later date to answer to these outstanding charges against him. 
 
Male arrested for threatening ex-partner
On Thursday July 14, 2022, at approximately 7:09 p.m, police located and arrested a 38-year-old male suspect for uttering a threat to his ex-partner, stemming from a July 10, 2022 incident. 
 
The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge against him. 
 
Two females arrested for uttering threats and male for assault police
On Sunday July 17, 2022, police located and arrested a 27-year-old female suspect of Ottawa and a 29-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls for uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a female victim known to both, stemming from a July 7, 2022 reported incident.  While placing one of the suspects under arrest, a male assaulted one of our police officers. 
 
As a result, all three suspects were charged accordingly and later released by police with conditions and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to these outstanding charges.

Domestic offences lead to charges

On the 7th of July 2022 a 31 year old Smiths Falls male was charged with domestic related assault and mischief. He was later released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.

On the 8th of July 2022 a 24 year old Smiths Falls male was charged with domestic related assault and mischief was later released on conditions after a bail hearing.

On the 10th of July 2022 a 20 year old Smiths Falls female was charged with uttering threats and assault. She was later released on conditions to appear at a later court date.

On the 10th of July 2022 a 19 year old Smiths Falls male was charged with domestic related assault mischief. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Bail violation leads to further charges

A 36 year old Smiths Falls male was charged July 4th after police received information he may be with a female and her child that he was on conditions not to contact or associate with. Police arrested and charged this male with breach of his release order. While in custody, this male decided to throw his urine and feces at officers and was further charged with mischief as a result. He is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.   

Mother and Son duo facing further counterfeit related charges

Police have laid a total of 32 charges relating to Smiths Falls resident Wanetta Generoux and her son Joel Closs for passing numerous counterfeit $100 bills to various stores last month. They had been released in bail court on conditions.

Overdose calls over the weekend

Since Friday, officer responded to 3 calls related to overdose of what officers believe to be fentanyl. All have survived after naloxone was administered either by police or paramedics.

There were 182 calls for service over this last week- a lot of very time consuming calls relating to mental health, domestics and medical assist calls.

Mother and son arrested for possessing counterfeit money

On Friday June 24, 2022, at approximately 10:08 a.m., after an ongoing investigation, police located and arrested 48-year-old, Wanetta GENEROUX of Lanark, Ontario, and her son, 29-year-old, Joel CLOSS for being in possession of counterfeit money.  Police later executed a search warrant at a Center Street address and successfully recovered additional counterfeit funds, all in US denominations.

GENEROUX stands charged with the following:  Possession of Counterfeit Money (jointly) and Possession of Counterfeit Money.

CLOSS stands charged with the following:  Possession of Counterfeit Money (jointly), Possession of Counterfeit Money and one count of Failing to comply with Probation Order.

Both were held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges against them.

Male arrested for theft related and driving offences

On Sunday June 26, 2022 at approximately 12:14 p.m., police located a vehicle and driver in a Lombard Street business parking lot, from a previous gasoline drive off investigation.  Police interacted with the driver, 36-year-old, Michael FERGUS of Perth, Ontario.  During this interaction, police instructed FERGUS to stop his vehicle and park.  FERGUS proceeded to flee the area in an unsafe manner and travelled southbound onto Lombard Street. 

FERGUS was located and subsequently placed under arrest a short time later by police. 

FERGUS was held for a bail hearing and stands charged with the following:  Theft Under $5000.00, Flight from Police, Resist Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00 x2.

Female arrested for intimate partner violence

On Monday June 27, 2022, at approximately 7:13 p.m., police received a call to attend an Elm Street West residence, for a report of a male victim being struck by his female partner.  Investigation revealed, that a 59-year-old, female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had engaged in a verbal argument and in anger, struck the victim.  The victim did not suffer any injuries as a result. 

The suspect stands charged with one count of Spousal Assault and was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to this charge.

The Smiths Falls Police Service are looking to identify the two individuals pictured above, after receiving a complaint of mischief to the Murphy Building in Centennial Park. It is believed that the damages occurred sometime over the weekend (June 11/12th).

Female arrested for uttering a threat

On Saturday June 11, 2022, at approximately 7:23 p.m., police received a call to attend a Brockville Street business for a report of a threat being made.  Investigation revealed that a 67-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had uttered a threat to burn property of her previous partner after engaging in a verbal argument. 

The suspect was placed under arrest, is charged with one count of uttering threats and was later released by way of an undertaking with conditions to answer to this charge.

Fail to remain accident results in arrest

On Saturday June 11, 2022, at approximately 9:44 p.m., police received a call to attend William Street East, for a report of a vehicle that had struck an unoccupied vehicle and fled the scene.  Police attended and located the vehicle and driver a short time later.  Investigation revealed that the driver, 38-year-old, Andrew MALONEY, of Smiths Falls was impaired by alcohol. 

MALONEY is charged with Operation while impaired (Over 80), had his vehicle impounded for 7 days, drivers licence suspended for 90 days and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to this charge.

Multiple arrests after execution of drug warrant

On Friday June 3, 2022, at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of the Smiths Falls Police Service, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) Search Warrant at a Lombard Street address.  As a result, four suspects were arrested, a quantity of drugs, cash, ammunition and weapon were located and seized.
