Female arrested for uttering a threat

On Saturday June 11, 2022, at approximately 7:23 p.m., police received a call to attend a Brockville Street business for a report of a threat being made.  Investigation revealed that a 67-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had uttered a threat to burn property of her previous partner after engaging in a verbal argument. 

The suspect was placed under arrest, is charged with one count of uttering threats and was later released by way of an undertaking with conditions to answer to this charge.

Fail to remain accident results in arrest

On Saturday June 11, 2022, at approximately 9:44 p.m., police received a call to attend William Street East, for a report of a vehicle that had struck an unoccupied vehicle and fled the scene.  Police attended and located the vehicle and driver a short time later.  Investigation revealed that the driver, 38-year-old, Andrew MALONEY, of Smiths Falls was impaired by alcohol. 

MALONEY is charged with Operation while impaired (Over 80), had his vehicle impounded for 7 days, drivers licence suspended for 90 days and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to this charge.

Multiple arrests after execution of drug warrant

On Friday June 3, 2022, at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of the Smiths Falls Police Service, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) Search Warrant at a Lombard Street address.  As a result, four suspects were arrested, a quantity of drugs, cash, ammunition and weapon were located and seized.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Wednesday May 25, 2022, at approximately 10:23 a.m., police located and arrested a 37-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from a May 19, 2022 incident in where the suspect was found to be in breach of his court ordered release conditions from a previous intimate partner violence offence. 

The suspect stands charged with breaching his court ordered release order x2, Criminal Harassment and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Wednesday May 25, 2022, police located and arrested a 25-year-old male suspect of Parham, Ontario for an outstanding warrant stemming from a June 2021 incident.  The suspect stands charged with breaching his release order conditions x4 and was held for a bail hearing.   

Traffic leads to arrest

On Thursday May 26, 2022, at approximately 1:47 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Abbott Street North after receiving an alert on the Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) for a highway traffic offence.  Investigation revealed that 39-year-old driver, Michael VALENCIA was a suspended driver was in possession of a controlled substance. 

VALENCIA was arrested and stands charged with one count of possession of a Schedule 1 substance and had his vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.  He was later released by way of a Form 10 release Undertaking with conditions to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Monday May 30, 2022, at approximately 7:41 a.m., police located and arrested a 30-year-old suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from a September 2021 incident in where the suspect did not attend for his court appearance.  The suspect was also found to be in breach of two additional breaches of his court ordered release conditions.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for theft and drug offence

On Monday May 30, 2022, at approximately 9:54 a.m., police located and arrested 24-year-old, Jeffrey HAMILTON, of no fixed address for a shoplifting incident at a Lombard Street business that occurred on May 27, 2022.  Investigation revealed that HAMILTON was in possession of a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance and in breach of his court ordered release conditions. 

HAMILTON stands charged with the following:  Theft Under $5000.00, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance and two counts of breaching his court ordered release conditions. 

HAMILTON was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Tuesday May 31, 2022, at approximately 11:43 a.m., police located and arrested a 67-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from a previous intimate partner violence incident and failing to comply with his court ordered release conditions.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.

Neighbour dispute leads to arrest

On Tuesday May 31, 2022, at approximately 11:33 p.m., police responded to a neighbour dispute at a McGill Street South residence.  Investigation revealed that a 65-year-old, male suspect of Smiths Falls, had uttered a threat to his neighbour.

The suspect was placed under arrest and is charged with Uttering a Threat and was later released by police by way of a Form 10 Undertaking with conditions to answer to this charge.

The Smiths Falls Police Service Board would like to announce that following an internal promotional process, Staff Sergeant Jodi Empey will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police effective July 1, 2022.  We are very excited to announce the first female Deputy Chief in our history.  Jodi was a graduate of Carleton University with a degree in Sociology and went to high school at Cairine Wilson. She started with the Smiths Falls Police Service as a recruit in 1994, working very hard through the ranks, dedicating herself to policing our community and giving back.  She has shown great leadership moving up the ranks and earning the respect of her peers and the public.  She is a compassionate, dedicated professional who will effectively deal with the operational needs of the Service.

“I am very pleased at the decision of the Board to promote from within the Police Service.  We have a great staff and we work hard on developing our people to be future leaders.  I look forward to working with Deputy Chief Empey in her new role” says Chief Mark MacGillivray.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Tuesday May 3, 2022, at approximately 4:55 p.m., police located and arrested a 32-year-old male suspect, of no fixed address, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from an April 2022, intimate partner violence incident at a Main Street east residence.  Investigation revealed that the suspect, assaulted his partner, damaged personal property and was in breach of his probation order release condition.

The suspect is charged with the following:  Assault, Mischief Under $5000.00 x2, breach of probation and was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Female arrested for intimate partner violence incident

On Saturday May 7, 2022, at approximately 5:34 p.m., police attended a Stratchona Street address for a report of an intimate partner violence incident.  Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old female suspect had assaulted her partner and caused damage to his personal property. 

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest, is charged with Assault and Mischief Under $5000.00 and was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges. 

Male arrested for breaching his release order

On the 10th of May 2022 police arrested a 68 year old Smiths Falls male with breach of his release order stemming from an Intimate Partner Violence investigation where charges of criminal harassment were laid. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Male arrested for fraud related offences

On the 11th of May 2022 police arrested a male for fraud related offences stemming from an investigation that commenced in November 2021. Charged with fraud and forgery is 35 year old Brendan Laming of Smiths Falls. He was also arrested on a committal warrant and held in custody pending a bail hearing.  

Wanted male arrested

On the 9th of May 2022 a Smiths Falls Police bike patrol officer spotted wanted male Dale Scott who at the time was operating a vehicle. On the 11th of May 2022 Smiths Falls Police located and arrested Dale Scott in Lanark Twp for breaches of his probation as well as several driving related offences. Scott was returned to Smiths Falls where he was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Male arrested for Intimate partner violence

Police investigated a serious Intimate Partner Violence incident that occurred on the 12th of May.   A 26 year old Smiths Falls male was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, assault, uttering threats to cause death and bodily harm, and two counts of mischief. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.   

Person arrested for assaulting an officer

On the 13th of May 2022 police received a call to attend a local restaurant parking lot on Beckwith St N regarding an intoxicated, belligerent person. Upon arrival, the person attacked the lone officer at the scene, punching, kicking and biting the officer. 2 bystanders assisted the officer until back up arrived. Charged with assault police, uttering threats and resisting arresting is a 19 year old resident from Smiths Falls. Their name will not be released.

Male arrested for Intimate Partner Violence offence

On Monday April 11, 2022, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call from a female victim advising she had just been threatened by her ex-partner.  Investigation revealed, that a 27-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, uttered a threat to kill the victim.

As a result, the suspect was charged with one count of uttering a threat to cause death.

The suspect was located and arrested a short time later and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Female arrested for shoplifting

On Tuesday April 12, 2022, at approximately 8:59 p.m., police received a call to attend a Lombard Street business, for a report of a female shoplifter.  Investigation revealed, that the 36-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had selected several products, concealed them, and made no effort to pay before exiting the business.  

Police located and placed the suspect under arrest.  She stands charged with one count of Theft Under $5,000.00, released by way of an Appearance Notice, and will appear in court at a later date to answer to this charge.

Female arrested for Intimate Partner Violence offence

On Wednesday April 13, 2022, at approximately 12:33 p.m., police attended a Church Street residence for a report of an assault.  Investigation revealed that a 19-year-old, female suspect, of Perth, Ontario, had assaulted her partner on this date and several other previous dates.

The suspect was placed under arrest, stands charged with three counts of Assault, and was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.  

Traffic stop leads to arrest

On Friday April 15, 2022, at approximately 7:23 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.  A check of the 34-year-old, male driver, revealed that he was a prohibited driver stemming from an outstanding impaired driving charge; had several suspensions against his drivers license, and was in breach of his Conditional Sentence Order, house arrest release condition.
As a result, the suspect was placed under arrest, had his vehicle impounded, and was held for a bail hearing.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Monday April 18, 2022, at approximately 6:42 p.m., police located and arrested a 38-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was issued stemming from an April 10, 2022, incident in where the suspect failed to update his address as part of his court-ordered release conditions from an Intimate Partner Violence-related incident.   

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Drug warrant leads to multiple arrests

On Friday April 8, 2022, at approximately 6:52 p.m., the Smiths Falls Crime Unit and O.P.P. Community Street Crime Unit, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrant at a Robinson Avenue residence.  Police made several arrests as a result and a quantity of illicit Drugs, Drug trafficking paraphernalia and a quantity of cash were seized. 

The following five accused are charged jointly and were held for bail hearings to answer to the outstanding charges against them:

Christian DESARMIA – 30 years of age, from Smiths Falls 

April KIRBY – 32 years of age, from Smiths Falls 

Vernon WATTS – 56 years of age, from Smiths Falls

Melissa WILLIAMS – 40 years of age, from Smiths Falls

Robert JARVIS – 52 years of age, from Smiths Falls

Charges:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds obtained by crime

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Thursday March 31, 2022, at approximately 1:43 p.m., police located and arrested a 50-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant.  The warrant was issued stemming from a January 2022, incident in where, the suspect had stolen tools from a McGill Street residence that he had temporarily been residing at. 

The suspect stands charged with the following offences:  Theft Under $5000.00 and Breach of Probation release order conditions x2. 

The suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.

Female arrested for outstanding warrant

On Thursday March 31, 2022, at approximately 3:55 p.m., police located and arrested a 39-year-old female suspect, of Kingston, for an outstanding warrant.  The warrant was issued stemming from and January 8, 2022 incident in where the suspect failed to attend for fingerprints and failed to provide an up to date address as per her release conditions. 

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges. 

Male arrested for Intimate Partner Violence offences

On April 3, 2022, at approximately 2:44 p.m., police located and arrested an 18-year-old male suspect, of Bancroft, Ontario, for numerous historic Intimate Partner offences.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had committed numerous offences against his ex-partner during the course of their relationship. 

The suspect stands charged with the following:  Assault x2, Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke x2 and Forcible Confinement x2. 

The suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future court date to answer to these charges. 

Male arrested for Intimate Partner Violence offence

On Monday April 4, 2022, at approximately 1:03 p.m., police responded to an Old Mill Road residence for a report of an unwanted male suspect.  Investigation revealed that a 67-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had attended the residence of his ex-partner after being warned several times previously not too. 

The suspect was placed under arrest and stands charged with one count of Criminal Harassment and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Female arrested for Mischief

O Monday April 4, 2022, at approximately 12:36 p.m., police located and arrested a 35-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, for mischief to property under $5000.00.  This charge stems from a March 2022 incident, in where the suspect caused damage to an acquaintance’s electronic device.   

The suspect stands charged with one count of mischief under $5000.00 and was later released by way of an Undertaking release order with conditions and will appear in court at a future court date. 

Female arrested for impaired driving

On Tuesday April 5, 2022, at approximately 12:08 p.m., police received a call to attend a Union Street business for a report of a suspected impaired driver.  Investigation revealed that the driver, 54-year-old, Kelly HERMER, of Smiths Falls, was under the influence of a controlled substance and impaired.

As a result, HERMER stands charged with one count of Impaired driving by drug, had her vehicle impounded and driver’s licence suspended as a result.

HERMER will appear in court at a later date to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for breaching his release order

On Wednesday April 6, 2022, at approximately 1:42 p.m., police located and arrested a 39-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for breaching his court imposed Conditional Sentence Order.  Investigation revealed, that the suspect was out of his residence and in the community while he was under house arrest.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing as a result.

Female arrested for outstanding warrants and assaulting a peace officer

On Thursday April 7, 2022, at approximately 12:12 a.m., police attended a Russell Street East residence for a report of a wanted female.  Police attended and located and arrested a 30-year-old female suspect of no fixed address.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had two outstanding warrants for her arrest stemming from a July 2020, Intimate Partner Violence related incident.  The suspect was located with a person whom she was on a previous release order to have no communication with.  While interacting with the suspect, she used her leg and attempted to kick officers. 

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Male arrested for breaching release conditions
On Sunday March 6, 2022, at approximately 8:42 a.m., police responded to a Parkland Court residence for a male suspect breaching his release conditions stemming from a previous Intimate Partner Violence related offence.

Police attended and located a 21-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, inside the residence. Investigation revealed that the suspect was in fact breaching his court ordered release conditions by being at the residence and communicating with a female resident inside.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing and stands charged with the following: Failing to comply with his court ordered release order x2.

Female arrested for domestic related offences
On Monday March 7, 2022, at approximately 10:21 p.m., police located and arrested a 44-year-old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, for an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The warrant stems from a January 2022, Intimate Partner Violence related incident, in where the suspect used a weapon and assaulted her male partner during an intense argument. The suspect also uttered threats to cause death to the victim and several family members.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing and stands charged with the following: Assault with a Weapon and Utter threats to cause death x2.

Males suspect arrested for theft of motor vehicle and drug related offences
On Thursday March 10, 2022, at approximately 3:25 a.m., police responded to an auto dealership on Lombard Street for a report of two suspicious males on the property. Investigation revealed that, 31-year-old, Ahmad NAZIM and 27-year-old, Kyle RICHARDS, both of Ottawa, were attempting to steal a vehicle off the lot and that they had attended the scene in a stolen vehicle from the same dealership stemming from a January auto theft.

Both NAZIM and RICHARDS were both placed under arrest, searched and found to have a controlled substance on their persons.

NAZIM and RICHARDS were both held for a bail hearing and are charged jointly with the following: Theft of a motor vehicle, Attempted theft of motor vehicle, Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 and both also face possession of a Schedule 1 drug.

Male arrested for fraud and theft related offences
On Thursday March 10, 2022, at approximately 8:40 p.m., police located and arrested 34-year-old male suspect, Thierry MUANA MANTUNGI, of Windsor, Ontario, for an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The warrant stems from a January 2022 incident, in where the suspect used fraudulent identification to purchase a vehicle at a Lombard Street auto dealership.

As a result, the suspect was held for a bail hearing and stands charged with the following: Possess identity documents x2, Identity Fraud, Identity Theft, Uttering Forged Passport, Fraud over $5000.00, Motor Vehicle Theft and Fail to comply with undertaking release condition.

Male arrested for Intimate Partner Violence
On Thursday March 10, 2022, at approximately 7:22 p.m., police received a call to attend a Bourke Street address for a report of a possible domestic disturbance in progress. Investigation revealed that a 46-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had assaulted his female partner inside the residence.

The suspect was placed under arrest, held for a bail hearing and stands charged with one count of assault.

Male arrested for Intimate Partner related offences
On Friday March 11, 2022, at approximately 11:39 a.m., police received a call to attend the area of Old Sly’s Road for a report of a male suspect breaching his court ordered release conditions, stemming from previous Intimate Partner Violence offences. Investigation revealed that a 27-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had breached his release order conditions by being within a specified distance of the victim.

Police located and arrested the suspect a short time later. The suspect is charged with the following: Breach of Probation Order x2, Breach of Release Order x2 and Criminal Harassment.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.

Male arrested for shoplifting and breaches
On Sunday March 13, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m., police located and arrested a 27-year-old male suspect, of Smiths Falls for a shoplifting related offence that occurred on March 8th at a Beckwith Street business. Investigation revealed that the suspect had entered the business, selected several items, concealed them in a bag and attempted to exit without paying for the products.

As a result, the suspect was held for a bail hearing and stands charged with the following offences: Theft Under $5000 and two counts of Breaching his Probation Release Order conditions.
