Domestic disputes lead to arrests

A 25 year old male was released at a bail hearing on the 16th of August 2021 after threatening, assaulting and confining a female he was involved in a relationship with. He will appear in court at a later date.

A 34 year old male was also released at a bail hearing on the 26th of August 2021 after unlawfully in a dwelling, assault and threats towards an ex-spouse. He will also appear in court at a later date.  

A 30 year old male was arrested on the 8th of September 2021 after police responded to a domestic related mischief call. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.  

Male sells narcotics to a plain clothes officer

On the 27th of August 2021 50 year old Wayne Mallory was arrested in front of a local business after attempting to allegedly sell prescriptions to a plain clothed officer. Mallory was charged with trafficking in a schedule 1 substance- hydromorphone, possession for the purpose of trafficking in hydromorphone and breach of a release order. He was later released at bail court for a later court date. 

Male released at bail hearing after theft reports

On the 4th of September 2021 Smiths Falls Police arrested 23 year old Dustin AMOS for offences relating to theft, breach of release order after investigating a bike that he allegedly rode out of the store making no effort to pay for it.

The Smiths Falls Police Service have responded or initiated over 529 calls for service in the last two weeks.

Female arrested for assaulting family members

On Wednesday July 21, 2021 at approximately 8:04 p.m., police attended a residence on Main Street for a report of an assault.  Investigation revealed, that a 25 year old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, attended the residence and assaulted a male and female resident, uttered threats and damaged property.  The suspect was found to be related to both victims. 

The suspect was located outside of the residence, arrested and stands charged with the following:  Unlawfully in Dwelling, Uttering threats x3, Assault x3 and one count of Mischief under $5000.00.  The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges against her.

Female arrested for shoplifting at local businesses

On Monday July 26, 2021 at approximately 8:31 p.m., police received a call for a shoplifter at a Lombard Street business.  Investigation revealed that a 32 year old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, was responsible for thefts at several Lombard Street businesses spanning over a several week period. 

The suspect was arrested on scene and is charged with 7 counts of Theft Under $5000.00, was later released by way of an Undertaking and will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.

Male arrested for breaching his release condition

On Tuesday July 27, 2021 at approximately 10:04 a.m., police located and arrested a 43 year old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, for breaching his court ordered release condition of communicating with his ex-partner.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had sent numerous messages by way of electronic means to the victim.

The suspect is charged with one count of failing to comply with his court ordered release condition and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Neighbour dispute results in charges

On Tuesday July 27, 2021 at approximately 3:13 p.m., police were called to attend a Russell Street East residence for a report of an assault.  Investigation revealed that a 26 year old male suspect and 23 year old female suspect attended their neighbour’s residence complaining about the volume of the music being played.  During this confrontation the male victim was assaulted by both the male and female suspects.  

Both suspects were located, arrested and stand charged with one count of assault each and later released by way of an Undertaking and will appear in court at a future date to answer to these charges.

Male arrested for breaching his release condition

On Tuesday July 27, 2021 at approximately 8:46 p.m., police received a complaint in regards to a male suspect who had breached his release conditions.  Investigation revealed that the 27 year old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had sent numerous electronic messages to his ex-partner and was in contravention of his court imposed release conditions. 

The suspect was located, arrested and is charged with one count of breaching his recognizance of bail release condition.  The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge. 

Male arrested for uttering threat

On Tuesday July 27, 2021 at approximately 5:06 p.m., police located and arrested a 49 year old male suspect of Perth, Ontario, for uttering a threat.  Police received a complaint on July 17, 2021 to attend a business on Center Street, after the threat was made.  Investigation revealed that the suspect had engaged in a verbal argument with two females known to him and after this exchange he uttered a threat to the victim who was an innocent bystander.

The suspect is charged with one count of Uttering a Threat to Cause Death and was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date to answer to this charge.

Charges laid after vehicle stolen at gunpoint

In the early morning hour of the 14th of July 2021 the Smiths Falls Police were involved in a pursuit after a work van was stolen at gunpoint on Beckwith St N. This set off a multi- jurisdictional dangerous chain of events involving this male accused. This male was identified and later arrested by the Lanark County OPP approximately 12 hours later. 

For the investigation that had occurred within the town of Smiths Falls, Smiths Falls Police have charged 28 year old Dylan John Meulmeester of Ottawa with the following:  

Pointing a firearm

Imitation firearm committing robbery

Weapons dangerous

Motor vehicle theft over $5,000

Flight from police

Dangerous operation

Operation while prohibited

Firearm possession contrary to prohibition order

Drive while under suspension

5 Counts of breaching a release order.

Meulmeester has an extensive criminal record spanning different jurisdictions and was also on outstanding court release orders at the time of this offence. Police confirmed that it was a pellet gun used in the offences. Meulmeester was held in custody for bail and has been remanded for further investigation.

A male has been arrested in relation to this incident and several other offences that occurred in multiple jurisdictions. He is currently in custody with Lanark County OPP. More information to follow. The vehicle below has been recovered.

Vehicle Stolen at Gunpoint

Early this morning around 0200hrs Smiths Falls Police received a 911 call regarding a vehicle that was taken at gunpoint. The male driver had stopped at the side of the road on Beckwith St N at William ST to check his emails when a male opened the passenger door and sat inside. The driver saw that the male was brandishing a handgun and immediately exited the vehicle. A short time later, a Smiths Falls Police officer on patrol spotted the van driving erratically and engaged in attempting to stop the vehicle. At that time, he was alerted by the Comm centre of what just occurred and initiated a pursuit down Roger Stevens road attempting to stop the vehicle. OPP were advised but did not have officers engaged in this pursuit. Smiths Falls Police continued to pursue the vehicle, until it lost sight of it around the Boundary Road area due to its very high rate of speed.

Ottawa Police (OPS) were contacted to assist and spotted the stolen vehicle in their jurisdiction, in the East end. The pursuit continued through Ottawa and one of their cruisers were damaged.  OPS ended the pursuit when the vehicle continued into Gatineau in an unknown direction of travel.    

Investigation has revealed this vehicle and male suspect was spotted at a gas station in Aylmer Quebec after this pursuit. The suspect and vehicle have not yet been located. No injuries to the driver as a result of what occurred. Male is described as being white, approximately in his 20’s, 5ft 10inches, with a muscular build. At the time of the offence, the male was wearing a light coloured possibly grey tank top and did not have any noticeable tattoos. He had short shaved blond hair- clean cut.  Below is the photo from a gas station of the suspect.

Vehicle is a white 2017 GMC Savana van bearing ONT #AX 25477 with Andre J Pavelich Enterprises LTD down the side. It has two 35 ft ladders on the roof.

Male believed to be armed- if vehicle is located contact your local police immediately.

Charges laid in a break and enter to a local business

On the 28th of June 21 police commenced an investigation into a break and enter and theft from a local business. On the 3rd of July 21 police arrested and charged 41 year old Shawn Woodcock currently of Brockville with break and enter commit theft, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of a recognizance of bail. He was later released to an address in Brockville at a bail hearing. Most of the property was recovered by police and returned to the owner.    

Drug charges laid after police noted suspicious activity at local park

On the 2nd of July 2021 police arrested and charged 28 year old David HANN of Smiths Falls and two 15 year old youths with possession of a controlled substance after noting suspicious activity at a local park. Police believe the substance to be crack/cocaine. All were released to appear in court at a later date.

Charges laid after police receive several reports of vehicles being rifled through

On the 8th of July 2021 police had posted a picture to identify a male in regards to using a stolen credit card. Later that day on patrol, police located the male matching description from the photo. A brief foot pursuit occurred in the downtown core and police arrested the male. During the arrest, the male resisted officers. Charged with 11 counts of unauthorized possession of a credit card, 3 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 2 counts of resisting arrest of a peace officer and 1 count of possession of a controlled substance (believed to be crack/cocaine) is 32 year old Adam Reid of Ottawa. Reid is currently in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police are urging the public to ensure your vehicles are locked with valuables not left inside. All the thefts are ones of opportunity- vehicles have all been left unlocked.

Police looking for a vehicle reported stolen;

Smiths Falls Police are looking for a 2000 white Honda Civic ONT# CKVA-623 that was stolen from the Glen Ave area yesterday.

Domestic assault charges laid

On the 1st of July 2021 police investigated a domestic assault where charges against a 38 year old Smiths Falls male were laid. Male later turned himself in on the 8th of July 2021 on an outstanding warrant. He was charged with two counts of assault and mischief. He will appear for a bail hearing today.  

Male arrested for a bail violation

On the 5th of July 2021 a 35 year old Smiths Falls male was arrested for breaching a release order by communicating with a victim in a domestic related incident. That male was held in custody and later released at a bail hearing on further conditions.

Domestic disturbance leads to arrest

On Tuesday June 22, 2021 at approximately 7:42 p.m., police were called to attend a residence on Running Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance.  Investigation revealed that a 28 year old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had assaulted his common law female partner.

The suspect was placed under arrest and held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On Friday June 25, 2021 at approximately 9:25 a.m., a 49 year old male suspect, of Carleton Place turned himself into police for an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The warrant stems from a March 2021 incident in where the suspect did not abide by his court ordered release condition. 

The accused was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for domestic related incident

On Sunday June 27, 2021 at approximately 1:14 p.m., police received a complaint of an after the fact domestic related incident.  Investigation revealed that a 70 year old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had threatened to cause bodily harm to his wife during a heated argument. 

The suspect was located a short time later, placed under arrest, is charged with one count of uttering a threat to cause bodily harm (domestic) and held for a bail hearing.

Male arrested for mischief to business

On Monday June 28, 2021 at approximately 12:09 p.m., police responded to a business on Beckwith Street north for a report of mischief.  Investigation revealed that a 29 year old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had attended the business and caused damage to one of its windows.   

The suspect was located and arrested a short time later, stands charged with one count of mischief under $5000.00 and one count of failing to comply with a court ordered release condition.  The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.

Female arrested for domestic related offences

On Monday June 28, 2021 at approximately 10:27 p.m., police were called to a Maitland Street residence for a report of a domestic dispute in progress.  Investigation revealed that a 46 year old female suspect, of Metcalfe, Ontario had caused damage to her partner’s property during a heated argument. 

The suspect was placed under arrest, stands charged with one count of mischief under $5000.00 and was held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Traffic stop leads to charges

On Tuesday June 29, 2021 at approximately 2:15 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Lombard Street.  Investigation revealed that the licence plates attached to the vehicle were stolen out of the City of Brockville.  Further investigation revealed that the 27 year old male driver was a suspended driver and was under the influence of alcohol. 

The driver placed under arrest, had his vehicle impounded and is charged with the following:  Possession of stolen property under $5000.00, breach of probation x 2 and numerous Highway Traffic Act offences and was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date.

Traffic stop of ATV leads to arrest

On Wednesday June 30, 2021, at approximately 7:35 p.m, police conducted a traffic stop of an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) in the area of Abbott Street North after observing it to be operating in an unsafe manner.  Investigation revealed that the 29 year old male driver, of Ottawa, was under the influence of alcohol.  A demand was made by police for the driver to provide suitable samples of his breath and he refused. 

The driver had his ATV impounded for 7 days, drivers license suspended for a period of 90 days and is charged with Refusal to provide a breath sample and was released by way of an appearance notice to attend court at a future court date.

Officers checked suspicious vehicle- ended in arrest

On the 14th of June 2021 officers received a complaint of a male sleeping in his vehicle on a business property. Investigation revealed that the 23 year old male was wanted out of Russell County OPP for failing to appear in court. Upon arrest, the male resisted police officers. He was further charged with resisting arrest. 

Male arrested for Impaired during CDSA warrant

On the 18th of June 2021 police noted a pick-up truck jump a curb and a male starting walk over to a residence where officers were conducting a search warrant. Police intercepted the male and determined he was impaired by alcohol. Jeffrey Earl Peters age 38 years of Perth was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol and over 80mgs. His vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The accused will appear in court at a later date.

Domestic dispute ends in charges

On the 20th of June 2021 police attended a domestic in progress. A 44 year old male was charged with two counts of uttering threats, sexual assault, assault and breach of a weapons prohibition. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Mischief Incident at a local business   

On the 21st of June 21 police were called to a business on Ferrara drive after customers watched a male swinging a hammer damaging property. Police immediately gained control of the male who dropped the hammer. Shawn Woodcock of No fixed address was arrested for theft under, four counts of mischief, weapons dangerous and possession of weapon while prohibited. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. 

Male arrested for outstanding warrant

On the 20th of June 2021 police attended an address on Anderson Ave regarding a dispute. While there, police arrested a 38 year old male on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear court on domestic related charges. He was later released at a bail hearing.

Weapon complaint ends in charges On the 21st of June 2021 police received a complaint from a couple walking on Elmsley St who were approached by a male on a bike and started a confrontation with them. The male suspect allegedly pulled a knife on the couple who then fled the scene. Police quickly located the male involved and arrested him. Charged with weapons dangerous, carrying a concealed weapon, and assault with a weapon is Darius Kirton of no fixed address. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. The knife was recovered by police.

Smiths Falls Police execute a CDSA warrant

On the 18th of June 2021 at approximately 130PM members of the Smiths Falls Police with the assistance of the OPP ERT and CSCU teams executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act warrant at 83 Jasper Ave in the town of Smiths Falls.  In the execution of this warrant police seized a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, paraphernalia relating to drug trafficking, and cash.

One of the accused Clarence Joseph Mulrooney age 38 years of age had just been convicted of trafficking in a schedule one substance as a result of Project Daytona, an investigation into a multi- level drug trafficking operation in 2019 conducted by the OPP. He had just been sentenced June 17th 2021 to be allowed to serve his time in the Community on a supervision order.

Charged jointly with Possession of Schedule 1 Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule 1- cocaine, Possession of Schedule 1 Cocaine for the purpose of trafficking are:

Clarence Joseph Mulrooney age 38 Smiths Falls,

Brenna O’Connor age 39 of Smiths Falls,

Jody MCDONALD age 43 of Smiths Falls,

Ryan Seguin age 42 of Smiths Falls,

Kyle Greene age 26 of Smiths Falls

Mulrooney and O’Connor were further charged with Possession of property obtained by crime. Mulrooney currently remains in custody. All others were released on conditions to abide by to a later court appearance.

Female arrested for domestic assault

On Thursday June 3, 2021 at approximately 7:05 p.m., police responded to a domestic disturbance on Beckwith Street South.  Investigation revealed that a 22 year old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had assaulted her male partner. 

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and stands charged with one count of domestic assault.  The suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for refusing to provide breath sample

On Tuesday June 8, 2021 at approximately 2:57 p.m., police were called to attend a business on William Street West for a report of a suspected impaired driver.  Police located the suspect and investigation revealed that, 35 year old Spencer COURNEYA, of Toronto, Ontario, was under the influence of an intoxicating substance.  Police demanded a suitable sample of his breath be provided into an approved screening device and he refused. 

As a result COURNEYA had his driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days, vehicle impounded and stands charged with Refusing to provide with breath demand.  COURNEYA was issued an Appearance Notice and will appear in court at a future date to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for domestic offences

On Wednesday June 9, 2021 at approximately 10:35 p.m., police responded to a Smiths Falls Avenue residence for a report of a domestic assault.  Investigation revealed that a 36 year old male suspect had assaulted his female partner and threw a cup at her inside the residence causing minor injuries.  Police located and arrested the suspect a short time later. 

As a result, the suspect is charged with one count of domestic assault and assault with a weapon.  The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Road Safety Week May 18-24th

Smiths Falls Police participated in the annual road safety week that’s conducted across Ontario. The campaign focusing on any type of behaviours that would put other drivers and pedestrians at risk, such as impaired and aggressive driving.

Officers here do it while also responding to a number of calls for service. During this week, officers also conducted random spot/RIDE checks as well in various areas around town. 

The follow tickets were issued in relation to this campaign to prevent impaired and aggressive driving. 27 tickets for speed, 4 tickets for running stop signs, 4 tickets for running red/amber lights, 1 ticket for handheld device, 1 for seatbelt, 1 for drive left of centre, 1 drive having liquor readily available, 1 for liquor in open container other than residence, 1 ticket for an unsafe move, 1 criminal code arrest for impaired by drugs and alcohol and 1 arrest for refusal of demand for impaired driving related offence.
