Female arrested for domestic assault

On Thursday June 3, 2021 at approximately 7:05 p.m., police responded to a domestic disturbance on Beckwith Street South.  Investigation revealed that a 22 year old female suspect, of Smiths Falls, had assaulted her male partner. 

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and stands charged with one count of domestic assault.  The suspect was later released by way of an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in court at a future date to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for refusing to provide breath sample

On Tuesday June 8, 2021 at approximately 2:57 p.m., police were called to attend a business on William Street West for a report of a suspected impaired driver.  Police located the suspect and investigation revealed that, 35 year old Spencer COURNEYA, of Toronto, Ontario, was under the influence of an intoxicating substance.  Police demanded a suitable sample of his breath be provided into an approved screening device and he refused. 

As a result COURNEYA had his driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days, vehicle impounded and stands charged with Refusing to provide with breath demand.  COURNEYA was issued an Appearance Notice and will appear in court at a future date to answer to this charge.

Male arrested for domestic offences

On Wednesday June 9, 2021 at approximately 10:35 p.m., police responded to a Smiths Falls Avenue residence for a report of a domestic assault.  Investigation revealed that a 36 year old male suspect had assaulted his female partner and threw a cup at her inside the residence causing minor injuries.  Police located and arrested the suspect a short time later. 

As a result, the suspect is charged with one count of domestic assault and assault with a weapon.  The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Road Safety Week May 18-24th

Smiths Falls Police participated in the annual road safety week that’s conducted across Ontario. The campaign focusing on any type of behaviours that would put other drivers and pedestrians at risk, such as impaired and aggressive driving.

Officers here do it while also responding to a number of calls for service. During this week, officers also conducted random spot/RIDE checks as well in various areas around town. 

The follow tickets were issued in relation to this campaign to prevent impaired and aggressive driving. 27 tickets for speed, 4 tickets for running stop signs, 4 tickets for running red/amber lights, 1 ticket for handheld device, 1 for seatbelt, 1 for drive left of centre, 1 drive having liquor readily available, 1 for liquor in open container other than residence, 1 ticket for an unsafe move, 1 criminal code arrest for impaired by drugs and alcohol and 1 arrest for refusal of demand for impaired driving related offence.

Male arrested for domestic offences

On Monday May 18, 2021 at approximately 6:38 a.m., police attend a residence on Broadview Avenue West, to follow up on a reported domestic assault.  Investigation revealed that a 42 year old male resident had committed the following offences against his common law girlfriend:  Assault, Assault with a weapon, Uttering threats and Forcible confinement.

The accused was subsequently placed under arrest and held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

On Saturday May 22, 2021 at approximately 9:43 p.m., police were called to attend the area of Queen Street for a report of an injured female.  Police located the injured female and investigation revealed, that the female victim had just been assaulted by her boyfriend in the park area by Old Sly’s Road.  The victim was transported to the hospital, was found to have suffered minor injuries and was later medically cleared. 

Police located and arrested the 25 year old male suspect, of Kemptville, Ontario, for one count of domestic assault. 

The accused was held for a show cause bail hearing to answer to this charge.

On Saturday May 22, 2021 at approximately 11:47 p.m., police were called to attend a Jasper Avenue residence, for a report of a domestic assault.  Investigation revealed that the 56 year old male resident had assaulted his common law partner.

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest, stands charged with one count of domestic related assault and held for a bail hearing to answer to this charge.

Female arrested for breaching release conditions

On Sunday May 23, 2021 at approximately 9:25 p.m., police located a 33 year old female suspect at a Parkland Court residence, who was found to be in breach of her court imposed release conditions. 

The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest, stands charged with two counts of breaching her court ordered release conditions and held for a bail hearing.

Male arrested for historical domestic related offences

On Sunday May 23, 2021 at approximately 10:30 a.m., police received a complaint from a female victim in regards to historical domestic abuse with her ex common law partner.  Investigation revealed that a 34 year old male suspect, of Smiths Falls, had committed numerous serious domestic related offences against the victim throughout their relationship.

The suspect is charged with the following:  Assault with a weapon, Choking, Forcible confinement, Utter threats to cause bodily harm, Sexual assault, Criminal harassment, Fraud over $5000.00, Make forged document and Use forged document. 

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.   

Motor vehicle accident leads to numerous offences

On Monday May 24, 2021 at approximately 7:56 a.m., police were called to attend the area of Sussex Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident that had crashed into a yard.  Investigation revealed that 34 year old Reece Bonneau, of Perth, Ontario, was impaired and the lone occupant inside the vehicle.  While attempting to place the suspect under arrest, he resisted, assaulted officer’s and attempted to flee the area in his vehicle, causing damage to a police cruiser. 

As a result Reece Bonneau is charged with the following offences:  Imparied operation alcohol-drug, Refusal to comply with demand, Resist Peace Officer, Flight from Peace Officer, Dangerous operation of a vehicle, Assault a Peace Officer, Mischief Under $5000.00 and Driving while under suspension. 

Domestic disturbance leads to arrest

On Monday May 24, 2021 at approximately 7:13 p.m., police responded to a residence on Jasper Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance.  Investigation revealed that a 52 year old male resident had assaulted his common law partner.  While investigating this offence, the victim disclosed several additional historical domestic related offences. 

As a result the suspect stands charged with the following:  Assault x3 (domestic), Uttering threat to cause bodily harm, Assault with a weapon, Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Careless use of a firearm, and Assault causing bodily harm.

The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these outstanding charges.

Scam Alert

A person’s account gets hacked then a message is sent out as if it was from that person to all their contacts.  It asks the person to open a YouTube video that you appear to be in.  This is how the scam transmits and gets into other people’s accounts. If this should happen, the person should send out a message to all of their contacts telling them about the hack and anyone hacked should change their password immediately.
